We’ve broken our SD card somehow and want to restore from backup.īe sure to unmount (but not detach/eject) any existing filesystems on the SD card after inserting it. You now have two partition images backup-boot.img and backup-root.img. $ dd bs=1m if=/dev/rdisk1s2 of=backup-root.img We can back up each of these partitions using dd: $ dd bs=1m if=/dev/rdisk1s1 of=backup-boot.img This disk ( /dev/disk1) has two partitions: an MS-DOS partition and a fuse-ext2 partition. Get the info of each partition you want to copy on your SD card using diskutil: $ diskutil info /dev/disk1s1 By copying the partitions, I was able to restore relatively quickly. I kept messing up the software on the SD card and needed to start over, but it took a long time to go through all of the RPi setup steps. For now, we have a guide on how to mount and access Ext4 filesystems on Windows.I made these notes as a result of my experimentation with a Raspberry Pi. ![]() Given that company’s increasing integration of Linux into Windows, that may eventually change. Granted, Ext4 isn’t fully supported on Windows right now either. For the time being, it’s up to companies like Paragon Software and the open source community to keep it coming. Will reading files with these tools damage my EXT4 filesystem?Īs long as you’re mounting partitions read-only, as we suggest in this article, you have little to no chance of losing data. Some of the other popular filesystems supported by macFUSE are NTFS-3G, OXFS, and SSHFS. Does macFUSE work with other filesystems? If you’re going to do this, we wouldn’t recommend doing so with any data that you can’t afford to lose.
